| "Burned began
as an exercise in negative space with the swirling cape. Then
her plaintive face emerged on top. When I painted her she
became burned. The piece is one of my most evocative
sculptures. People look at her and say 'I can feel her pain'
or 'I've been there'. Others just look at her empathetically
without words. She's a very special piece to me."
